So this pilot episode... I'm not sure what its series would be about. I guess a buddy slice-of-life dark comedy drama. Tonally, the pilot is confusing, and I feel like that's from weaknesses in the script editing plus (less important in a pilot than the writing is, in my opinion) the mismatches in visual styles. There was a moment with a talking hat that felt like a bad attempt to get out of animatingβ back of the head would have been better. The casual sexism and frequent cussing through the show are off-putting, along with the violent deaths. The characters both seem like middle schoolers. How old are they supposed to be, going out on their own to a night club while not knowing how to talk to strangers? They don't particularly appeal to meβtho there were a few good moments that kept me watching. I like the earnestness and honesty of the mouse. His(?) father's awkward queerphobia suggests there's much more going on with their dynamic. The tail-less dog(?) learning a little how to be friend gave my heart a tug, so good job catching up suckers like me with that. Sadly, I can't say I like the visual character designs. What is Clay? He's a main character, but he's the only animal that looks like nothing recognizable. The noses being like pupils of a lost third eye and their shifting around far too much were annoying; I'm not sure I'd get used to that. Apparently, that's not so big a distraction for other viewers.
