I remember life in the '80s and '90s. It wasn't simpler times. Anyhow, I'm now mostly doing pixel art and illustrations. My goal for 2025 is to create a fantasy visual novel for ages 17+ (or only for me depending how the real world goes).

Deleted Apology

Posted by shadowfals - 2 weeks ago

I could have used my time better than I did snapping at a teen for acting like a thoughtless troll. I apologized, but a BBS moderator deleted my post. The kid blocked me, so he wouldn't see a new post from me, anyhow.

Well, you made an effort.

My guess as for the deletion would be that you probably opened a new thread, which could have been interpreted as being off-topic for that particular forum.

You learned your lesson: "Never apologize!" ;D

It was only a reply in-thread. Another reply in a different thread was deleted this week. What they had in common that retained posts don't: I mentioned a specific social institution (not a specific organization and not with any derogatory words) that might could possibly make site moderators nervous. But the posts might have been be considered off-topic for not sticking to simple answers to explicit questions. No way to know.

I was raised by someone and around people who would attack apologizers for exposing any vulnerability around family, classmates, teammates, or whomever— and the damage has been a pain to manage over the decades.

I guess in spaces lile this it's better to avoid creating a reason to apologize, because we won't likely have an opportunity to.

@shadowfals My last few days have not been 'great' for me and my brain is in 'energy conservation mode'. But from our past conversations I remember that you are
A) not the kind of user who goes around insulting others or would otherwise ignore site-rules or common decency and
B) that you had issues with bullies in the past.

I have not seen the posts in question, but 'my personal guess' would be that one person who hates your guts (for reasons that are most likely mindbogglingly stupid) managed to misrepresent your posts based on wording, and talked a Forum Moderator into deleting your post.
"Technically" our forum rules are really, really long:
https://www.newgrounds.com/wiki/help-information/forums/forum-rules
If one were to dig into a post deep enough, they could get posts by Tom Fulp himself removed on the regular. ;) All they would need is an overworked/agitable/tired Forum Mod who listens.

As I said: That's all just speculation and unless you happen to have saved the page at the time, the original post is gone forever. If you want to get to the bottom of this and the rules I linked to above do not help, cross-reference names of Forum Moderators to the Moderators of the related Portal and pick the most likely candidate:

In doubt: People often make the claim that TurkeyOnAStick does a lot of NG's "housekeeping". I have approached him about disagreements and questions in the past, and while we did not always see eye to eye, he is _very_good_ at explaining his reasoning for his actions.
If he was the one who deleted your posts, I am 100% certain that you would be understand what triggered the deletion after your PM-exchange. And I also feel positive about that he will be more inclined to give you a more 'detailed' explanation, since you wouldn't be all 'up in his face' about a removal - unlike some other users. ;)

I hope this helps.
